His Legacy Remains

Michael Jackson

He was one of a kind. Possibly, the best of its kind.
His music videos are a story by itself and instilled with virtues.
His songs are ever green and had such deep meanings.
His moves were super cool and never vulgar.
He revolutionized the music industry.
He moved the world in so many good ways and yet people took advantage of him.
He had the fans from around the globe and yet he was lonely.
He was criticized unfairly, because he loved elementary things.
His departure leaves me with mixed and confused emotions.

I remember trying my level best to imitate his moves in primary school for Showtime at the school canteen. My Moonwalk looked more like an Ewolk.

The Bride has most of his album and it’s like having the best music collection.
He was 50 when his heart stopped palpitating. But his legacy will remain.

I Read and I Learned

Two very interesting incidents happened last week.
The first was that I was given the honour by the Deputy Registrar to read the Chief Justice’s decision.

Background: a few months ago, leave to appeal to the Federal Court was granted for 2 questions of law. One regarding O.6 and another regarding O.1A of the Rules of the High Court. Hearing proper was before the CJ, CJM and Dato’ Sri Augustine Paul, FCJ. The CJ wrote the judgment, which incorporated the comments of the other two panel members.
As a Senior Assistant Registrar (on record, and fulfilling other duties), I read the whole judgment.
It was awesome. More meaningful as I was present in open court when the appeal proper was heard and I was part of the “administrative officer” for the case.
Best!

The second interesting thing that happened last week was the tutorial session between Dato’ Gopal Sri Ram, FCJ and the Judicial Officers from Palace of Justice.

Background: Dato’ Gopal Sri Ram wanted to have a session with all of the officers from POJ to discuss the following rescission, resulting trust and administrative law.
SCARY BEB!
I can safely tell you all that all the male officers couldn’t find their balls that day.
He gave us a 2 ½ inches of reading materials comprising of 17 cases for us to read before hand. We only managed to cover the first two issues only. The third issue is to be discussed at another agreed time.

Semua orang study maut! Tak cukup masa, buat masa untuk study... READ READ READ!

He would have his usual antic in court of shooting a question at anyone in the library. If you have seen him in action before, you would know how lawyers can be ballerina when they have the pleasure of appearing before him. Fortunately / Unfortunately (it depends on how you look at it),if he knows your name, he would not hesitate to mention it when asking a question.
If you did not read the materials provided earlier, you might as well not come for the tutorial. But if you have read it, it can be one of the most educating 2 hours of your life!

I asked something about fiduciary relationship and when he wanted me to clarify my question, he said:
"Just because you can cough up those two words together does not mean you can simply use them! Explain!"

O_o

The tutorial turned out to be super cool! Learned so much in a few hours... And will learn more soon.
Ahhh..

This week is Penilaian Tahap Kecekapan (PTK) week. Am off to ILKAP for my pre-exam courses untuk naik pangkat…
Wish me luck!

Looks Can Be Deceiving...

Seven dwarfs go to the Vatican , and because they are the Seven Dwarfs, they are immediately shered in to see the Pope.

Grumpy leads the pack.

"Grumpy, my son," says the Pope, "What can I do for you?"

Grumpy asks, "Excuse me your Excellency, but are there any dwarf nuns in Rome ?"

The Pope wrinkles his brow at the odd question, thinks for a moment and answers,
"No, Grumpy, there are no dwarf nuns in Rome ."
In the background, a few of the dwarfs start giggling.
Grumpy turns around and glares, silencing them.

Grumpy turns back, "Your Worship, are there any dwarf nuns in all of Europe?”
The Pope, puzzled now, again thinks for a moment and then answers,
"No, Grumpy, there are no dwarf nuns in Europe. "
This time, all of the other dwarfs burst into laughter.
Once again, Grumpy turns around and silences them with an angry glare.

Grumpy turns back and says, "Mr. Pope! Are there ANY dwarf nuns anywhere in the world?"

The Pope, really confused by the questions says,
"I'm sorry, my son, there are no dwarf nuns anywhere in the world."
ALL the other dwarfs collapse into a heap, rolling and laughing, pounding the floor, tears rolling down their cheeks, as they begin chanting......
"Grumpy shagged a penguin!"

"Grumpy shagged a penguin!"

Kesian Grumpy... O_o

Happy Birthday "In My Chambers"!

About a year ago, this blog was created. This was the first post.

It was put on hold for about a month or so.

It came back.
It is here to stay!

It's not about anything negative. It's all about my legitimate perception on things.

And I enjoy relating it to you as much as (I hope) you enjoy reading it and I am grateful that you are reading it. You guys RAWK!

I can't believe I have been a blogger for about a year and 8 days.

But I sure believe that there's plenty more to come from this Chambers.
I know for sure because it is,

"In My Chambers".

Don’t Play With "FA YER"!!?

Baby Shopping!
IT'S SO MUCH FUN!
Even though you have no idea how your current fetus is gonna look like when she becomes a baby girl...
Hmm… The term above is not quite right. We cannot go shop a baby. We can shop for a baby.
Even though babies wouldn’t even know the difference between Anakku and Osh Kosh B’gosh, brand-new stuff and hand-me-down stuff, bright coloured and dull coloured, cutey-pinkey-polkadots dresses and being left naked with a blanket.

Dot is still a 6 month old fetus and she already has a super-cute bag pack for her milk. The Bride just couldn’t resist it… Who could??!

That’s what parents are for. Parent’s friends and family members can help them buy stuff too. That’s what Parent’s friends and family members are for too!

Parents are supposed to protect their precious children.
This includes not leaving their babies near fire. Fire is hot. The baby might be uncomfortably hot to say the least. Common sense right?

One of the most amusing reminders that I have come across while happily shopping with the Bride for Dot happened last night. We were at a shop and we saw this pretty-small-piece-of-clothing-for-the-baby-to-wear. It says:

"I LOVE MOMMY"

Cute.

I wanted to know the size of this dress. So I flicked the top part of the dress and I found “THE REMINDER”.
This was what I saw:

???
Must you still be reminded of this?

Hmm.. I guess this tag should remind me not to place this piece of clothing (either when my baby girl is wearing it or not) anywhere near fire because without this tag, I might intentionally want to place it somewhere near fire...

Obama - A New Beginning

President Barrack Hussein Obama gave an excellent speech in Cairo, Egypt. It is entitled, "A New Beginning". I read it here. (The picture above was copied from the same source as well.)

Apparently, he did not forget to say “peace be upon him” every time he mentioned Prophet Muhammad’s (saw) name. I think this is a small gesture of respect which if it is left unsaid by a non-Muslim is a non-issue but if it is mentioned, would make Muslims go like, “Cayalah lu bro!” (in the Malaysian context that is.)

He even said Assalamualaikum in the beginning of his speech. How cool is that?
I’m impressed how he applied the story of Isra’ Mi’raj as an example of peace and harmony. I can do no better than to quote:

"Too many tears have flowed. Too much blood has been shed. All of us have a responsibility to work for the day when the mothers of Israelis and Palestinians can see their children grow up without fear; when the Holy Land of three great faiths is the place of peace that God intended it to be; when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Isra, when Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed (peace be upon them) joined in prayer."
Very cool conclusion Mr. President!

Now let’s just hope that the follow up to his speech is as impressive as the speech itself. Follow up is important. We do not need the typical “ceramah-membakar-semangat-untuk-undi-saya” and after the election, habuk pun takde.
May the All Mighty grant us guidance…

My Pets' Pets

The Bride ada two cats, one is the-I-am-so-handsome Sir Romeo Dearhart (or Dearhart, I am not sure as I have not seen his i.d.) and the other is the-menggedik-you-are-not-worthy-of-my-attention Lady Alexis Grey.

This is Romeo. (Yang berbulu hitam tu Tony)

This is Lady.

Romeo, the pet cat, has two hamsters; Chikong and Tony, as his pets. Romeo would sit around their cages and stare at Tony and Chikong’s fun activity everyday and night.

Tony and Chikong are Pitong and Roxy’s children. Chikong is like Roxy; they bite. Tony is like Pitong, selamberock.

Ni Tony...

Pitong and Roxy are no longer with us as they were attacked and kidnapped by some big bad wolf (or fox). Actually, out of all the hoo-haa about Pitong’s family, Tony and Chikong are the only survivors as they were made to become Romeo’s pets. The rest are kept at my mother’s house and by the time we found out about the big bad wolf, all was too late. With Romeo around these two, security is no longer an issue.

One day, I took Tony out from his cage and placed him on the glass table in front of the television. Guess who came to sit and watch Tony? You got that right. Romeo was there on guard at the other side of the table. Well, he was there all along until Tony became over confident and started to climb Romeo’s tail. That got Romeo a wee bit agitated and wanted to smack Tony. I grabbed Tony just in time and thought that was enough for the night.

Animals memang ada their own character. It really is fun to sit and watch them.

That small black thing is Tony's poop...

This is Tony's butt; the place where the poop came from...

Tony surveying Romeo's tail...

Don't come too close to the camera!!! A very curious hamster he is...

Ahahaha... So bloody difficult to get Tony to look at the camera like this...

ermm... boring already...

Anyway, that reminds me. I have to go back to put more food, clean their cage and shower them. Romeo doesn’t like smelly hamsters. When I see Romeo staring at his pets from far, I know its time for some Head and Shoulders special time with 'em rodents.

The things you do to keep yourself busy…

Dot Is A Dotter!!!

Yesterday the Bride and I went for Dot’s 6 months check up. My tummy was churning inside out the whole morning. I had a real good gut feeling that Dot would show his/her secret this time.

Without knowing whether it is “pink/blue” can halt many preparation plan. Confirming a name, which would be a trademark for Dot is totally out of the scenario if we don’t know Dot’s gender.

The nurse at the hospital was certainly not helpful that morning.
PEMALAS numero uno!

She could have saved us an hour by just getting the Bride ready before the doctor arrives but no! It was chit chat chit chat chit chat. Then she went on to call patient number two (we were number one, having completed all the pre-examination requirements) because she THOUGHT we were not ready.
Bengong...

While waiting, I began discussing some stuff with the Bride. Suddenly the Bride said, “cube u rase ni…” Hehehe, Dot was awake and was happily kicking inside there. This confirms my hypothesis that Dot is a voice activated baby

Finally, after the long wait, we were called in. After the usual hello-doctor-how-do-you-do session, the Bride got on the bed and got herself comfortable.

-Splat-nyet-nyet-
(bunyi doctor letak jelly biru and tenyeh tenyeh atas perut the Bride)

The doctor began to search for Dot with her magical wand. Dot tried to hide but space was limited. The doctor found Dot prostrating covering the face, too malu to share it with us all. The Doctor said “OH tengok, dia tengah solat Dhuha tu” to which the Bride replied, “She is certainly going to make her grandmother proud!”

As the doctor continued to scan and measure Dot’s size, I started to tap the Bride’s tummy. Just as I expected, I saw Dot shaking her body and tap back at my hand. “Oh!!! So that’s how you do it in there….” But that only happened just once. Dot was too khusyuk praying to respond to my taps thereafter.

What Dot didn’t realise was that as she was concentrating with her mini prayer, the little secret area which was consistently covered was finally exposed! Hehehe Finally, after 6 months we can now confirm that…

a healthy 'Sharifah “Dot” Alhabshi' is on the way, Insya Allah…
(Dot will remain as Dot for now. No point confirming on a name now as we would like to keep our options open.)

Alhamdulillah she is healthy and growing well inside the Bride’s small poyot buncit…
Ahh… truly amazing…
It’s easier to smile and chuckle as my mind begin to wonder during my loooong drive to the office on how life is going to change with a DAUGHTER!!!

Dot oh Dot…. Malu tutup muke tapi tunjuk buntut pulak…

Read more about it here.

The 2 to 1 Ratio

I received an email a couple of days ago. It was a Q&A by a student and a scholar regarding a hadith by Prophet Muhammmad SAW. Let me reproduce the email below:

Belittling Women with the Hadeeth : “Women are Deficient in Intellect and Deen.”
By: Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn Baaz
Reference: Majmoo’ Fatawaa Wa Maqalaat Mutanawi’ah. Vol. 3/292
Translator: Shadeed Muhammad, Abu Az-Zubayr

We often hear the noble Hadeeth "Women are deficient in their intelligence and in their Deen” and some men use this Hadeeth as a form of belittlement towards the women.

We desire from you O noble shaykh, clarification of the meaning of this Hadeeth?

The meaning of the Hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam):
“I have never seen anyone with a deficiency of ‘Aql (intellect) and Deen (religion) who are more overpowering to men than one of you [women].”
So it was said:
“O Messenger of Allaah, what is the deficiency in her intelligence?”
He said:
Isn’t the witness of two women equal to that of one man?”
So it was said:
What is the deficiency in her Deen?”
So he said:
Isn’t it the case that if she is menstruating she doesn’t pray or fast?”

So the Messenger (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) clarified that the deficiency of her intellect was from the angle of her weak memory and that her testimony is strengthened with the testimony of another woman. This is because of the preciseness of the witness (in Islaam) and because she could forget and make an addition or deletion to the testimony.

Just as Allaah says:
{And bring forth two witnesses from your own men. If there are not two men (available) then a man and two women, such as you agree for witnesses, so that if one of them (two women) errs then the other can remind her…} [2:282]

As for deficiency in her Deen, then it is because during her state of menstruation and post-partum bleeding, she abandons the Salaat and fasting, and she doesn’t make up the salaat. This is from the deficiency in her Deen. But this deficiency is not blameworthy upon her...
I am not going to argue about the authenticity of this hadith in this post. You can make your own research on this.

What caught my attention is the part where the scholar explained that the reason that 2 women witnesses equal to that of one man is because of her forgetfulness.

I am not sure of the accuracy of the sheikh on this point.

Forgetfulness is a common thing for each and every one of us. There is no way we can cope with life if we are able to remember every single thing. The moment we forget some facts, that makes us forgetful. Right?

What I understand is that the Islamic law should be made applicable as a way of life. It is the teachings of Islam that a woman should travel when she has a legitimate companion (mahram). Hence, Islam does not encourage a woman to travel alone. This taken into consideration, when a woman sees something to which she can be called as a witness, her mahram, being in her presence, should also be called as a witness.
If her mahram is a man (i.e. her brother/father/husband etc) than it should not be a problem as her mahram's testimony is sufficient. If her mahram is a woman, than the two female witnesses testimony would be made applicable.

If her companion is not her mahram, meaning it is her boyfriend or office colleague, than her testimony is doubtful as she should not in the first place be with a non-mahram.

I think this is one of the main reason why there is a need for two female witnesses apart from having her companion to remind her if she were to err.

I doubt if her testimony requires corroboration because base on my experience, a woman IS AWARE OF EVERY SINGLE THING AROUND HER! Worst part is that, SHE USUALLY NEVER FORGETS!!!

As far as I can remember, gender is not an issue when it comes to forgetfulness.

I stand to be corrected and only He knows best.

Wallahu A'lam.
